There is not enough time or opportunity to write here, so much going on each day.. will try to catch up!
We spent 3 fabulous days up in the cloud forest in San Luis, enjoying our time there so very much. Having naturalists all around to show us every detail of the forest was amazing. The kids learned so much, and we all really enjoyed the balance of nature and culture. We took full advantage of all the activities we could fit in, including: dancing lessons, cow milking, botanical garden tour, coffee plantation tour, night hike, insect-ology class, and a cooking lesson!
We left San Luis on Sunday and drove just up the hill to Monteverde, where we went to the sloth sanctuary. It was truly an experience to see these amazing creatures up close. They are SO cute, and funny. We loved it!
We went to town for an early dinner and to watch the Costa Rican national soccer team play Guatemala, which was exciting. We stayed that night at the Monteverde Inn, a simple lodge tucked right up against the forest. We woke up to a bunch of Capuchin monkeys at breakfast!! The kids delighted in watching these hilarious creatures leaping about, making faces, and eating bits of bananas the kids fed to them. We also had a coati come to visit.
Next we drove to Arenal where we have been for three nights, and leave today. We have been staying at Los Lagos, which has hot spring pools! It has been an experience here, total opposite to San Luis. It looks like the land of the Flintstones, actually. We are in tourist-ville, busses of groups coming in each day for the hot springs. We have enjoyed the leisure time, and have done something adventurous each day. On Tuesday we ziplined through the canopy forest above us here, and that was a blast! The kids even went upside down, and flew like superman with a guide attached to their back. We saw howler monkeys up in the trees.
Yesterday we went on a waterfall hike to a fall 61 meters high. The kids swam in the pools below the falls. It was beautiful!
We have been enjoying going to town to try the restaurants, and hanging out at the wet bar in the hot pool. The kids have been hoping the clouds would clear to see the volcano right above us, but it is a rare sight we have been told.
Today we head down the coast towards the Osa peninsula, where we will spend the weekend right in the park, in the jungle. Will let you know more on Tuesday!
